Introduction
This is the second book I’ve written. The first one, written in November of 2020, was…grim. Because I was feeling grim and wrote a story about a grim guy in a grim place feeling grim feelings. I’m sure I’ll come back to it, but, right now, the world doesn’t need any more of that, at least not from me.
So, with this one, I wanted to write one that was less of all of that. I wanted to write a story about happy people, even if they were living in a sad world.
I wanted to write a sci-fi story, but one that had the promise and excitement and fun of old-timey sci-fi, the kind of story that was looking forward to the future, not so much interested in being a grim tale of caution and woe.
But then I started writing it.
And very quickly, the title became The Future Is Stupid, so you can kinda tell how that whole happy and optimistic sci-fi turned out.
But, what I did accomplish, I think, is a story that’s fun and definitely not grim. I wrote this one from January to March of this year, and haven’t really looked at it since. I’m going to edit it and throw the chapters up here when I think they’re in a reasonable enough place for people to read them.
The end goal is to be published so I can go see my little book in a big book store and to make my dad proud of me. I think that would be really nice. He writes sci-fi stories too. Grim ones.
So, thanks for reading. I really hope you like Oswald and Kestrel and the little world they want to destroy as much as I do.
